Daniel Meyer assumes artistic advisory role with the WSO!

The Westmoreland Symphony Board of Directors announces the appointment of Daniel Meyer as Artistic Advisor of the Westmoreland Symphony Orchestra for the 2010-2011 Season. Daniel will oversee the artistic leadership of the WSO as the board reviews possible successors to Music Director Kypros Markou, who will be leaving the orchestra after 31 years following the 2009-2010 season.

Daniel Meyer is best-known in the region as Resident Conductor of the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra and Music Director of the Pittsburgh Youth Symphony. He is also Music Director of the Asheville (NC) Symphony Orchestra and Eric (PA) Philharmonic. His duties with the Westmoreland Symphony include programming for the 2010-11 season, hearing auditions for new musicians and overseeing the artistic development of the WSO during this transition year. Daniel will conduct the WSO at its opening night classical concert in late October of 2010, the Young People’s Concerts and the Home for the Holidays concert.

Music Director candidates will conduct the remaining classical concerts during the months of February, March and April of 2011.

The Academy of Music is teaming up with the Westmoreland Library Network for their summer reading program "Be Creative @ Your Library." The WSO String Quartet will be performing at 11 Westmoreland County Libraries during June and July. See below for libraries, dates and times!

Want an opportunity to improve your musicianship this summer? Then come work with faculty from Seton Hill University and the WSO’s Academy of Music while exploring exciting music for string orchestra and chamber ensembles. This year, the workshop will be held at Greensburg Salem Middle School.
