This music appreciation mini-course is offered in groups of four class sessions, designed to explore four basic periods of music – Baroque, Classical, Romantic and 20th Century. Emphasis is placed on recognizing the various styles and learning terminologies that improve one’s knowledge and appreciation for what is happening in the music. These sessions are ideal for people who wish to sharpen their listening skills.

Classical Encounters II provides a more in-depth focus on topics including The Life and Times of Joseph Haydn, Beethoven’s Life through his Symphonies, Mahler and Strauss, and Masterpieces of 20th Century Music.

Morrie Brand, instructor and current Academy of Music director, is a former professional musician and composer, and was a college music instructor for more than ten years before becoming an arts manager.
